Content Marketer Spotlight: Kelvin Gee, Oracle

As Senior Director of Modern Marketing Business Transformation, Kelvin Gee focuses on Modern Marketing enablement evangelism and training. His specialty? Educating and transforming Oracle’s marketers to adopt marketing automation, personas and best practices.

Kelvin’s devotion to creating great customer experiences is clear, especially when he’s venting about marketers’ current shortcomings. But, like our other participants, there’s plenty more to him than meets the eye. Let’s take a look:

Work

What B2B marketing trend is inspiring you right now? Virtually every company I talk to is undergoing a massive transformation in how they do marketing. Oracle is undergoing a similar transformation, but I’m proud to say that we are ahead of the curve and customers are now turning to us for guidance.

What’s one of your favorite projects or campaigns you’ve worked on and why? My favorite project was when I developed a video game to support the launch of a new line of Oracle SPARC servers. The game was called “SPARC Runner” and it was an infinite runner, like Subway Surfer or Temple Run. We hosted competitions at our regional launch events in APAC and North America and at Oracle OpenWorld. It was a creative way to support a product launch and generate leads.

What B2B marketing mistake makes you cringe? Today, marketing is all about delivering great experiences, so I always cringe when I see online pop-up ads. If companies only knew that they are damaging their brands, they would stop this annoying tactic. They need to realize that interruption marketing doesn’t work anymore.

Play

What city do you live in, and what’s great about it? I live in Redwood Shores, which is a great place to raise a family, but it’s especially great because Oracle’s global headquarters is only two miles from my house!

What’s your motto/words to live by/favorite quote? “Whatever…”

What’s your favorite song, movie or TV show? “Game of Thrones,” but I’m really into “Daredevil” and “Mr. Robot” as well.

What inspires you? I am a Virgo so I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so what inspires me is doing great work.
